Outstanding Performance from the Senior Football Team in the Munster Semi Final
Ard Scoil na nDéise 2-7
SMI Newcastle West 0-12
The Ard Scoil girls put in their most impressive performance of the year to reach the final of the Munster Senior CM competition.
The girls faced a strong SMI Newcastlewest team, who had averaged 10 goals per game in their last four games. This point makes the fact that the the Ard Scoil defence kept their opposition goalless even more impressive.
The defence really did begin with the full forward with Muireann Hickey, Róisín Kiersey and Abbie Fitzpatrick putting in a serious shift tracking back well into their own half. In addition to her defensive duties, Muireann Hickey had 1-4 notched up before half time while Abbie Fitzpatrick tormented the NCW defence finishing with 0-2. Siobhán Lennon rounded the half off with a goal to leave the Ard Scoil 2-6 to SMI NCW 0-5 ahead.
Abbie Fitz started the 2nd half off with a pointed free which rounded off the Ard Scoil scoring. And with that the onslaught began on the Ard Scoil goal. A special mention must go to Emily Foran and goalkeeper Katelyn Gardner who make a formidable duo in repelling opposition attacks. The final whistle came just in time, as the Ard Scoil just held on for a 1 point victory.
Well done to all, on an all-round team performance!
