Support Services Supervised Study Supervised study is available each day (Monday - Friday) for two hours. Prior to house exams, pre-exams and state exams this is extended to three hours daily. During this time, supervised study is also available for four hours on Saturday morning. Learning Support and Resource Teaching Learning Support and Resource Teaching are integral parts of the curriculum. Special needs are identified and addressed as soon as possible to enable each student to achieve her full academic potential. Learning Support page English as a Second Language Ard Scoil na nDéise offers a language support programme to students learning English as a second language. This programme supports the development of the students' proficiency in the English language so that they can gradually gain full access to the complete curriculum, ultimately achieving the same educational opportunities as their English-speaking peers. Language support also helps the student to socialise with peers and to integrate socially. The English language support teacher works in collabaoration with the subject teachers. Ard Scoil na nDéise provides an inclusive school environment to meet the needs of pupils for whom English is a second language and we celebrate linguistic, ethnic and cultural diversity in many ways, including events such as European Day. Elocution Elocution is part of the curriculum for all First Year students, and provides an important and enjoyable platform for talents, not necessarily academic. The elocution class builds self-confidence through improvised drama and scripted short pieces of prose and poetry. Unscripted dramas are first told as stories, then performed in the class room and on stage in the Junior Hall, where the girls dress up and act out various roles, appealing to their sense of fun and humour. Students are prepared for individual examinations: proper etiquette and courtesy are essential. They learn how to walk into a room properly, sit down comfortably, speak in a confident manner with the examiner and perform their chosen piece of drama, poetry or prose, for which they are awarded a certificate.
