O’Brien Trophy comes to Dungarvan for the First Time

Shortly after the death of their father Ned the O’Brien family presented the Ned and Mary O’Brien trophy to the Irish Schools. This trophy was designed to acknowledge the huge contribution the O’Brien had made and continue to make to throwing events and in particular the discus. The trophy is awarded annually to the winner of the senior girls' discus event at the Irish schools championships. On Saturday last the trophy was won for the first time by a local athlete when Zoe Scanlon competing for the Ard Scoil won the discus and was presented by the trophy.

Claire Collins continued her good jumping form clearing 1m 60 to finish second in the senior high jump. Ciara Scanlan continued her progress in the hammer throwing over 34m to win bronze in the inter girls hammer. Kaylee Norris and Eimear Duff made their debut at this level running well in the under 16 mile.
