End of School Year Notes & Next Year's Calendar
Letter to Parents
14th May, 2010.
Dear Parents/Guardians,
As the end of the school year is approaching I would like to remind you of some important events, dates and arrangements.
Examinations
First, Second and Fifth Year students will begin their Summer examinations on Monday, May 31st. I would expect that your daughter has already started a programme of revision, as the whole year’s work will be tested. Summer holidays begin for these students on Friday, June 4th.
The Leaving and Junior Certificate examinations will begin on Wednesday, June 9th. All students must wear full school uniform throughout the examinations.
Books
As schoolbooks are very expensive we try to minimise the changes in textbooks. We encourage students to buy and sell books second hand, and we will try to get incoming Fifth Year students to make contact with Sixth Year students who have the books they will need. There will be a book sale in June at which Third Year students can sell books to incoming First Year parents. Please encourage your daughter to save money in this way.
All books, shoes, jackets and other belongings must be taken home before the holidays, and the school accepts no responsibility for property left here during the Summer.
Graduations
Transition Year graduation Wednesday, May 26th
Sixth Year graduation Thursday, May 27th
Summer Works and fundraising
During the Summer holidays we will have work done on the Senior building, including replacement of some of the windows at the back, and in the coming year we hope to continue upgrading our I.T. facilities. The Board of Management is extremely grateful to the Parents’ Council who have worked so hard with Mrs Colette Power, Deputy Principal, to continue the outstanding efforts to fundraise in these recessionary times. We are committed to offering our students the best education we can in a safe and pleasant environment.
I would appreciate if you could support the Variety Concert being organised by Mrs Teresa Daly of the Parents’ Council on Friday, May 21st. Details are enclosed with this letter.
Text Messaging
As we are setting up a text messaging arrangement, please ensure that the mobile numbers you have given us are correct and are updated as necessary. Also, it is important to notify us of any change of address.
School Tour to Italy
The final payment for the school tour is due by Friday, May 14th. If your daughter is going on the tour, please make sure to arrange her passport and European Health Insurance Card in the coming weeks as these will be checked in early September
End of Year Behaviour
I would like to ask for your support in the coming weeks in ensuring that all Ard Scoil na nDéise students behave in a respectful manner when in town, at lunchtime and on the way to and from school. Please ensure that your daughter is not involved in any antisocial behaviour such as water ballooning which is a danger to elderly people and motorists in particular.
We will be cooperating with the Gardaí, and sanctions will apply if pupils fail to behave appropriately. We have invited Inspector Heffernan and a colleague to speak to our students regarding this serious matter. Your support is vital.
